Position Title: Program Associate, Latin America

Status: Exempt

Reports to: Vice President, Latin America

Location: Davis, California

Position Summary

This position supports the Latin American team in effective management and flow of internal and external communications, knowledge sharing, and learning. Performs a variety of skilled administrative duties directly related to program activities in Latin America including developing and maintaining partner and donor databases, preparing reports and proposals, assisting team staff in using and maintaining reporting systems, documenting program work and lessons learned in the region, and fostering effective working relationships with partners, peers, and funders in the region.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation and coordination of knowledge management practices and activities for the Latin American team that will allow for learning within the team as well as between the team and other teams at Freedom from Hunger.
  • Support the Latin American staff to effectively use Freedom from Hunger's technology tools and knowledge resources.
  • Develop and maintain system for tracking partner and donor relationships and activity in the region.
  • Encourage and support team contributions to Freedom from Hunger's knowledge repositories and collaborative spaces.
  • Assist in the documentation of lessons learned, tools, and processes from the region.
  • Identify and facilitate opportunities for learning within the Latin American team and between the Latin American team and other teams, partners and peers.
  • Facilitate the timely flow of information between the Latin American country program managers and fundraising staff.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and proposals for Latin American program activities.
  • Assist with donor communications, information requests, responds to or distributes basic requests from the public for information about Freedom from Hunger's Latin American programs.
  • Contribute to the development and management of Freedom from Hunger's collaborative information technology tools and internet portal to ensure that they meet the team's needs.
  • Assist with organizing and managing logistics for meetings, events and presentations.
  • Handle routine telephone calls and correspondence.
  • Continually seek and create new ways to improve, streamline and promote effective knowledge sharing among Latin American staff, broader Freedom from Hunger staff, and partners.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to the VP for Latin America and the rest of the Latin American team as needed.
  • Perform other duties to support the Latin America team as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Prior Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Latin American studies, international development, public health, business, or other relevant field required.
  • Graduate degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • Excellent writing, research and communication skills; ability to gather, synthesize and present information in a professional, compelling and practical manner.
  • Experience with information communication technology, including online portals, intranets, collaborative workspaces and/or other internet-based knowledge management tools; experience with creating and/or maintaining websites preferred.
  • Experience with Sharepoint and Salesforce strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of international development, especially microfinance and health, preferred.
  • Genuine interest in poverty alleviation through the provision of financial and non-financial services to poor women.
  • Proven leadership ability and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience traveling or living in Latin America preferred.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and domestically up to 10% of time.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English required. Fluency in Portuguese, French, or Creole a plus.
