By raising and selling her pig, Maria can save for emergencies and access medicine.
By raising and selling two more pigs, Maria can afford annual checkups for her family, something they never had before.
Thanks to the partnership between her women’s group and the local clinic, Maria feels safe seeking lifesaving treatment right away.
Her family’s access to healthcare means Maria can devote more time to her business while her children are in school.
Maria is keeping her family healthy and strong. Her thriving business helps her take a larger loan from her group next time, and she can support other women to do the same.
When healthy, Maria’s children can attend school. They are able to focus better and get the education they need to thrive.

Djeneba and her baby live in Burkina Faso, one of the poorest countries in the world. An arid landscape and a lack of natural resources make it incredibly difficult to earn a living. Clean water is not easy to find.
Djeneba needs to be able to breastfeed, but without healthy foods to eat, she and her baby are in grave danger of malnutrition and even death.
With a loan of $25, Djeneba could purchase seeds and fertilizer.
With a loan of $50, Djeneba could buy seeds, fertilizer and hand-held tools.
With a loan of $100, Djeneba could purchase a cow to provide fresh milk.
With seeds and fertilizer, Djeneba can begin to grow fruits and vegetables.
With seeds, fertilizer, and hand-held tools, Djeneba can grow food for her family and expand her agriculture business.
With fresh milk, Djeneba has a source of nutrition for her family—and she can sell milk to people in her community for a good price.
Once ripe, Djeneba can eat them for a nutritious source of food and successfully breastfeed her baby.

Lata lives with her two young daughters in a small village in Patna, Bihar. In a country rife with malnutrition and disease, she struggles to keep her family healthy. Diarrhea is a common killer when access to clean water is problematic.
Lata works in the field, but she still can’t earn enough to provide her family with the nutritious food they need. She has watched many children in the village fall ill and die from diseases like malaria, and Lata is desperate to protect her daughters from the same fate.

With a loan of $50, Lata could buy a water filter and an insecticide-treated bednet.
With a loan of $100, Lata could buy a water filter, an insecticide-treated bednet and chickens to start a small business.
With a water filter, Lata can ensure that her daughters have clean water for drinking and preparing food.
With a water filter and a mosquito net, Lata’s daughters will have clean water and protection from malaria, a deadly disease.
With clean water and a mosquito net, Lata’s family is much healthier! And with their chickens, Lata can add eggs to her daughters’ diet and sell some in a new small-business venture.
Clean water and safe food preparation will dramatically reduce the risk of her young daughters falling ill.
Insecticide-treated mosquito nets are a simple way to help families avoid malaria.
Selling eggs can help others. With her profits, Lata can buy into a community chicken coop as a self-sustaining source of food and profit.
Now healthy and less susceptible to disease, Lata’s daughters can attend school with improved focus.
Lata shares her success with others in her women’s group and they, too, invest in water filters.
Less susceptible to malaria, Lata’s family can take additional steps to good health and nutrition.
Once the other members hear of Lata’s success, they, too, invest in these items.
