President

Steve Hollingworth has served as President of Freedom from Hunger since September 2011. An expert in international development, his fields of expertise include: microenterprise and microfinance, health, education, agriculture, environment, civil society strengthening, local capacity-building, governance and emergency relief and rehabilitation.

Prior to joining Freedom from Hunger, Hollingworth spent 26 years with CARE, most recently as Chief Operating Officer, based in Atlanta, GA. In this capacity, he was instrumental in developing and implementing organization-wide strategy and was responsible for direct line management of global operations and programs with a total of 13,000 employees and a budget of $650 million. He has also held senior field positions in Asia (India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh), Africa (Lesotho) and Latin America (Bolivia), building collaboration between practitioners, technical assistance providers, donors and government agencies.

Mr. Hollingworth has an M.S. in Economics, Development Studies, from Victoria University of Manchester, UK and a B.A. in Economics from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois.

Ron Forrest
Vice President, Operations and CFO

Ron ForrestRon Forrest

Ron Forrest serves as Vice President, Operations and Chief Financial Officer of Freedom from Hunger. A CPA with more than 20 years experience in public accounting, non-profit health services and commercial real estate development, he oversees operations, finance and risk management for Freedom from Hunger.

Mr. Forrest began his career with Price Waterhouse based in Sacramento and Brisbane, Australia. Prior to joining Freedom from Hunger in 2009, he worked as Director of Finance for the Sacramento-area commercial real estate developer, Granite Bay Ventures, LLC. He also served as Operations Manager for BloodSourcein Sacramento and as Chief Financial Officer for MacFarms of Hawaii, a cookie and macadamia nut food company. With his unique breadth of experience, he brings a valuable combination of non-profit and for-profit skills to provide strategic leadership in the areas of finance, legal, human resources and general business operations.

Mr. Forrest graduated Summa Cum Laude from California State University, Sacramento with a BS in Business Administration Accountancy.

Kathleen Stack
Vice President, Programs

Kathleen StackKathleen E. Stack

Kathleen Stack, Vice President, Programs, has thirty-five years of experience in international development with expertise in program design and management, strategic business planning, microfinance and microenterprise development.

Ms. Stack has been a leader in the design of financial services for the poor including Credit with Education and Savings Group methodologies. She led the development of Freedom from Hunger’s business education curriculum and was instrumental in the design of the Global Financial Education Program curriculum and approach. In her various roles with Freedom from Hunger, she has provided capacity-building, training and evaluation services for microfinance and civil society organizations in Africa, Asia and Latin America and is a founding member of The SEEP Network.

Prior to joining Freedom from Hunger, Ms. Stack served as Associate Director of Plan International in Burkina Faso before becoming a Program Manager for a USAID women’s credit and nutrition project in that country. She served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Mali.

Ms. Stack holds an M.A. in International Administration from the School for International Training Graduate Institute and a B.A. in Psychology from Clark University. She speaks fluent French.

Bill Souders
Vice President, Technology Strategy and Integration

Bill Souders joined Freedom from Hunger in 2014 as Vice President, Technology and Integration.

Prior to joining Freedom from Hunger, he served as Senior Director–Corporate Affairs at Cisco, where he led a program with a $25M annual budget that was working in more than 165-plus countries. It focused on deploying Cisco technology and expertise to address education, health care, economic development and disaster relief needs and promote employee volunteerism. He directed global teams chartered with planning and executing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities and investments, including setting strategies with government agencies and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) as well as with Cisco Networking Academies.

Prior to that, Mr. Souders was Cisco’s Senior Director for CSR in Africa. His program supported the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) program sponsored by the African Union. This role he worked with heads of states and government ministries to deploy e-Schools across the continent through a consortium of approximately 30 local, regional and international partners. He also delivered high-level consulting services to the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy and served as a Trustee of the Cisco South Africa Education Fund.

Mr. Souders also served as Senior Director, HR Learning and Development and IT at CISCO and as Group Director, Worldwide Business Systems at Synopsys.

Mr. Souders has an MBA in Marketing & Finance from Santa Clara University and a BA in Business/Economics from the University of Pittsburgh.
